Bonus Feature: About Time
Introducing a new bonus segment to Unnecessary Edits: Bonus Features. No rewrites, just reviews and ratings.
First up, the 2013 British romantic comedy/drama, ‘About Time.’ Starring Domhnall Gleeson, Rachel McAdams and Bill Nighy, ‘About Time’ tells the story of Tim, a man who has the ability to time travel and tries to change his past in attempts to improve his future.
I’m giving this film a 9/10. Spoiler alerts warning! While I found the plot to be a little slow at times and thinking back, there are definitely some plot holes with the rules of the time travel (one of the rules is only the males in the family can travel back, but at one point Tim takes his sister back). But all things considered, I absolutely loved the story. Despite the added magic of time travel, I found the story line to be realistic. Knowing what it’s like to find your soulmate, I loved watching Tim do whatever it took to meet Mary again. I loved the dynamic between Domhnall Gleeson and Rachel McAdams; I found their love story to be extremely convincing. This film tugged at my heartstrings. It was a telling moment when Tim had to decide whether to go back to put his sister on a better life path or ensure that the daughter he knew and loved was exactly the same. As a 30-something starting to think about starting a family and just growing older in general, I felt I could relate to a lot of the plot (obviously time travel excluded). It’s the small, intimate moments in the movie that truly make it shine. One particular father/son moment towards the end of the film had me tearing up quite a bit. The film is currently streaming on Netflix, definitely recommend adding to your watch list.
