Episode 11: Frozen II

Unnecessary Edits embarks into the unknown and dives into the latest Disney hit, ‘Frozen II.’
Check out the latest episode where UE heads to Arendelle and reviews and rewrites
this nearly billion dollar earning flick.
Is the music from Frozen II actually better than the first? Does Garrett stick with his necromancy theory that he threw out in episode 1 of UE? Samantha?

Episode 10: Twin Films: Deep Impact vs. Armageddon

Your Unnecessary Editors prepare for launch into two apocalyptic films from 1998 where nukes are mankind’s only method for survival. Check out the first episode in the ‘Twin Film’ series. See which film we liked better, along with some ridiculous rewrites as well as weirdly deep space discussion.  Do we need children in Deep Impact? Does Armageddon end too soon? Are either of these movies any good? All this and more in our 10th episode!

Episode 8: Planes, Trains and Automobiles

The Unnecessary Editors jump into this Thanksgiving-ish comedy movie and ask all the important questions: Should the ending be less sad? Do we need more back story for Del, could there be something nefarious in Del’s trunk!?

These rewrites and all sorts of travel and comedy discussion await in our 8th episode!

Happy Thanksgiving from us at Unnecessary Edits!

Episode 7: Yesterday

This week, Unnecessary Edits hops the pond to review and rewrite the 2019 rom-com/music film ‘Yesterday,’ directed by Danny Boyle. The film explores a world where the Fab Four doesn’t exist.

As always, SPOILER ALERTS!
Tune into this week’s episode to find out what Kristin and Garrett liked and dislilked, and what they absolutely would want to change (hint hint: we are not in love with the shape of you!)

Kristin suggests a change to the way Jack gets discovered, and Garrett thinks a better story line involves a coma.

“Maxwell Edison, majoring in medicine
Calls her on the phone
“Can I take you out to the pictures
Joa, oa, oa, oan?”

Episode 6: Joker

In Episode 6, Kristin and Garrett review and rewrite a long overdue “in theaters” film.
This week, Unnecessary Edits goes deeper into the psychological thriller, ‘Joker,’ starring Joaquin Phoenix.

SPOILER ALERTS! If you haven’t seen this film yet and don’t want to be spoiled, hold off on this episode. The film is still playing in select theaters, so check your local theaters.

Discussions and reactions get deep, so tune into this week’s episode to find out what UE would change. How many times have we seen Bruce Wayne’s parents die? Why wasn’t Gotham City darker or more grim?

Send in the clowns and tune into the latest episode!

Episode 5: Halloween Triple feature

Trick or Treat!
Unnecessary Edits is joined again by Dave for a spooky Halloween Triple feature.

This week, each host picked one of their favorite movies to watch on Halloween (the only stipulation: the plot of movie must take place around Halloween). This frightful episode includes Disney’s ‘Hocus Pocus’, Tim Burton’s ‘Sleepy Hollow,’ and John Carpenter’s ‘Halloween.’

Why does Mary Sanderson growl like a dog? Why wasn’t Katrina Van Tassel a more supernatural character? What makes Michael Myers’ evil?

Sit for a spell and enjoy a brew with this week’s episode!

Bonus Feature: About Time

Introducing a new bonus segment to Unnecessary Edits: Bonus Features. No rewrites, just reviews and ratings.

First up, the 2013 British romantic comedy/drama, ‘About Time.’ Starring Domhnall Gleeson, Rachel McAdams and Bill Nighy, ‘About Time’ tells the story of Tim, a man who has the ability to time travel and tries to change his past in attempts to improve his future.

I’m giving this film a 9/10. Spoiler alerts warning! While I found the plot to be a little slow at times and thinking back, there are definitely some plot holes with the rules of the time travel (one of the rules is only the males in the family can travel back, but at one point Tim takes his sister back). But all things considered, I absolutely loved the story. Despite the added magic of time travel, I found the story line to be realistic. Knowing what it’s like to find your soulmate, I loved watching Tim do whatever it took to meet Mary again. I loved the dynamic between Domhnall Gleeson and Rachel McAdams; I found their love story to be extremely convincing. This film tugged at my heartstrings. It was a telling moment when Tim had to decide whether to go back to put his sister on a better life path or ensure that the daughter he knew and loved was exactly the same. As a 30-something starting to think about starting a family and just growing older in general, I felt I could relate to a lot of the plot (obviously time travel excluded). It’s the small, intimate moments in the movie that truly make it shine. One particular father/son moment towards the end of the film had me tearing up quite a bit. The film is currently streaming on Netflix, definitely recommend adding to your watch list.

Episode 4: The Shining

This week, Unnecessary Edits is joined by guest host Dave from Films with Dave as they check into the Overlook Hotel and explore Stanley Kubrick’s horror masterpiece, ‘The Shining’. Does Kristin actually find a horror movie she likes? Dave explains #timedilation, and Garrett rewrites in hedge animals from the book. All this and even more deep discussion on theories and themes in this thriller of an episode!
